One of the main problems that has affected a sound negotiation with Iran along the years has been represented by the approach used towards the Islamic Republic. Sometimes, the blame it received for its destabilizing activities in the area have been excessive compared to the behavior adopted also by other local actors. Furthermore, the frequent accusations of breaching agreements has been nonsense, especially concerning the nuclear deal, the so called JCPOA. Such experience has made Iranian leadership, usually suspicious, even more suspicious and distrustful towards US and EU members, generating the feeling that, especially with the nuclear deal, Iran has instead of cheating, it had been cheated.
I discuss this issue in my latest essay published on Middle East Eye www.middleeasteye.net
